Tea Tree Oil for Hair: How to Add to your Shampoo

Tea tree oil is one of the best things you can put on your hair. The essential oil has numerous benefits for your hair, including unclogging hair follicles and nourishing your roots. With tea tree oil, it is important that you dilute the oil with carrier oil. Or in this case, you can use a shampoo as a carrier oil for diluting.
Tea tree oil is extracted from a small tree in Australia bearing the same name. As a potent essential oil, tea tree oil finds its usage in countless cosmetic, beauty, and hair products. But it is always better to use organic and raw tea tree oil, than cosmetic products. Some of the properties of the oil make it perfect treatment for dandruff and lice.
That being said, let’s take a look how you can add this potent and effective oil in your regular shampoo.

Step 1 – Add oil

You will need an 8oz bottle of shampoo. Get a dropper, and use it to add 10 drops of tea tree essential oil to the shampoo bottle. As a result, your shampoo will now be 2% solution. The most you can increase the amount is up to 5%. Any more than that, and you might risk irritation and hair loss. In that case, the side effects outweigh the benefits. For head lice solution for children, add only 5 drops of essential oil to the shampoo.

Step 2 – Apply shampoo

Now that you’ve added tea tree essential oil to your regular shampoo, mix the two ingredients together. Keep the shampoo bottle, and when you want to wash the hair, apply directly to the scalp. Use your fingertips to slowly and gently massage the skin of your scalp. Let the hair soak the oil for five minutes.

Step 3 – Wash your hair

After five minutes, rinse your hair thoroughly as usual. You can style your hair afterwards as well. Never wash your hair with hot water, use lukewarm instead.
